Topic 6: Final Piece

Image
This final piece allowed me to explore a theme I am interested in which is disturbing environments and creating illusions and experiences, with my own vision and in my own terms. It was a challenge for me to create this piece since I am a graphic design major and have little experience with sculpture, mainly being what I've done in class. It was also a nice because after I completed the piece it, I could see how much I have changed since I started the class. For this piece, I had several ideas, one of them being that I wanted to section off a corner of the room and do the same thing but as a whole body experience, or that I was gonna design a bigger box and have a projection inside of it. But time, materials and transportation helped shape the piece into what it is. I am interested in continuing to explore this sort of theme and type of work in the future and to find a way to incorporate it into my graphic design work.

Topic 5: Narrative- Packaged Narrative Due Dates

This topic was the hardest in my opinion, but the one I had the most "fun" doing. Fun obviously in " because it was sooooo stressful. My idea for this topic started as mind games, I wanted to create items that would compliment the idea, such as a a board game, or a rubix cube that didnt work and so on. But because of how little time I had, I shifted the narrative to a sense of being trapped, confused, lost, overwhelmend, etc. And still tried to keep somehting from my first idea. My zine, is a map that when opened displays a maze with no exit and the hands of a person that is trapped inside. I decided to build two boxes instead of one, because I felt my narartive wouldnt be the same with just one box. I wanted to make everything more complicated and disturbing for the viewer or person interacting with it. That is why I decided to cover my boxes with mirror, which reflects the environment around it and also changes it wirh everything being reflected off of it. Covering the...

Topic 5: Narrative

In class, we were asked to write down 3 sentences following some directions posted on the board, and later we were given back the sentences at random and were arranged in groups, and together with our sentences form a short poem/ comic illustration. My teammates were Noah and Maria Latorre, our sentences were: The great parents has the best relationship with his son. (actual sentence we got) I believe in parrot I voted for Trump. As per we were told, we came up with three different stories. Our final story was about, a father and a son that are reading a book about parrots and are happy, and enjoying their time together. Then the kid tells the dad that he believes in parrots. And on the last illustration, we see a parrot holding a sign that says that he voted form Trump, and shows that parrots aren't good.

Topic 4: Landscape and Cities- Actual, Imagined, Shaped and Built In-depth Project

Image
For my in-depth piece on the landscape topic, I wanted to go back to the first exercise of the unit and have a different take on it. Instead of just sitting down for an hour, I decided I was gonna walk around different places and write down the turns I made, and if I crossed the street, etc, and record them on a little notebook.  This idea would allow to abstractly represent the city I live in. While in the process I realized that my drawings not just looked like a city, in the sense that rectangles could be buildings and what not, but it also looked like a city seen from above. I chose lines and squares because showed order, structure, simplicity, etc. The first sketch I took my notes and my imagination and came up with that overlapping layout of squares and lines. My first idea was to depict that across all 6 panels and connect them. Then I thought because plexi is clear I could do something with that, but after making 2 little mockups didn't turn out the way I imag...
