Topic 2: Pattern and Ornament.... In Depth piece

The personality trait I chose for this project is confident. Once I found the personality trait I wanted to depict, I researched the meaning of the world and also if they were any symbols used to depict it. During my research I found some African symbols that are used to portray confidence and they are composed of mainly circles, and spirals. Which I thought was very fitting to my chair design and also since I feel a confident person, is well rounded, and whole. Also the spirals can symbolize going with flow as a confident person would do. My first idea when thinking about materials was that I needed something which I could bend to create the spirals and circles. I wanted to use a led (neon) cable that I had at home, because I knew I could create the shapes with it and the fact that its bright and has light I thought was perfect to depict the personality. Someone who is confident doesn't hide, and its ok being different and standing out. But life happens and I had problems with the led cable and had to use xmas lights. Below I have attached some of the sketches, and the final work.
