The first impression I had when I saw this image was to think of the concentration camps, the barbed wire, the striped shirt, how skinny the children looked, the fact that they were barefoot, it is just horrible. This photograph was titled, Herbert, a Doffer, and Walter, a Spinner, Cotton Mill, Magnolia, Mississippi, taken in Magnolia, Mississippi, United States in 1910. It is a Gelatin silver print and it is 11.7 x 16.7 cm (4 5/8 x 6 9/16 in.) This photograph would have been perfect for a propaganda piece, because of how strong the imagery is. The children look misplaced, because where they are it is definitely not a place for children. Their faces show confusion, either by the fact that they are being photographed and they have no idea why, or simply they just reflect the state of their lives. They are alone  without supervision, without any adult figure near them that could guide them.  This photograph if made a propaganda poster would have been effective in communicating the horrors of child labor, and the fact that an end had to be put to it immediately.
