In class exercise (map) We were asked in class to quickly draw a map of what our commute to school looks like. I take the train most of the days, so what I did was illustrate the stops and if there is anything significant around any of them.

Topic #4: Landscape- Additional quick research to accompany your reading of Eccentric Spaces Ha-has (recessed walls) A ha-ha is a recessed landscape design element that creates a vertical barrier while preserving an uninterrupted view of the landscape beyond. Ha-has are used in landscape design to prevent access to a garden, for example by grazing livestock, without obstructing views. The name "ha-ha" may derive from the unexpected (i.e., amusing) moment of discovery when, on approach, the vertical drop suddenly becomes visible. In security design, the element is used to deter vehicular access to a site while minimizing visual obstruction. Most typically, ha-has are still found in the grounds of grand country houses and estates and act as a means of keeping the cattle and sheep out of the formal gardens, without the need for obtrusive fencing. Parco del Mostri The Sacro Bosco ("Sacred Grove"), colloquially called Park of the Monsters(Parco dei Mostri...

Topic 3: Illustration, Propaganda and Interpretation. In depth

Topic 3: Illustration, Propaganda and Interpretation. In depth. For this project we were asked to present a portrait and a propaganda piece of the same person. My subject was Kim Kardashian, I decided for the portrait to depict her covered up, put together, more serious and just differently that what we are using to seeing her which is dressed very provocative. Because no one hardly sees her that way, and then for my propaganda piece I chose an image out of a photoshoot she did with GQ, the image is not like a famous nude of her or anything as far as I know. But i just chose that one because it showed her full body, and it was obviously very contrasting with the first image. With the tag saying To die for, which is an expression in a positive way, I wanted to make people think about beauty, and if its something worth dying for. I wanted to show by picking a celebrity something we are all aware of which is how much pressure everyone feels trying to achieve the impossible beauty sta...

Topic 3: Museum Visit Lewis Hine; Social Justice and Child Labor http://www.getty.edu/art/collection/objects/61516/lewis-w-hine-herbert-a-doffer-and-walter-a-spinner-cotton-mill-magnolia-mississippi-american-1910/ The first impression I had when I saw this image was to think of the concentration camps, the barbed wire, the striped shirt, how skinny the children looked, the fact that they were barefoot, it is just horrible. This photograph was titled, Herbert, a Doffer, and Walter, a Spinner, Cotton Mill, Magnolia, Mississippi, taken in Magnolia, Mississippi, United States in 1910. It is a Gelatin silver print and it is 11.7 x 16.7 cm (4 5/8 x 6 9/16 in.) This photograph would have been perfect for a propaganda piece, because of how strong the imagery is. The children look misplaced, because where they are it is definitely not a place for children. Their faces show confusion, either by the fact that they are being photographed and they have no idea why, or simply they just refl...

Topic 2: Pattern and Ornament.... In Depth piece

Topic 2: Pattern and Ornament.... In Depth piece The personality trait I chose for this project is confident. Once I found the personality trait I wanted to depict, I researched the meaning of the world and also if they were any symbols used to depict it. During my research I found some African symbols that are used to portray confidence and they are composed of mainly circles, and spirals. Which I thought was very fitting to my chair design and also since I feel a confident person, is well rounded, and whole. Also the spirals can symbolize going with flow as a confident person would do. My first idea when thinking about materials was that I needed something which I could bend to create the spirals and circles. I wanted to use a led (neon) cable that I had at home, because I knew I could create the shapes with it and the fact that its bright and has light I thought was perfect to depict the personality. Someone who is confident doesn't hide, and its ok being different and stan...
